Skyrim - Fixing the Marriage Glitch Temple of Mara

In the Temple of Mara, you can marry someone from the world of Skyrim.

For more information on this see here: Marriage (Skyrim) | Elder Scrolls | Fandom

Bloodshoteyes.net - Skyrim Temple of Mara

Issue

When you propose to someone, you go back to the temple to arrange the marriage with Maramal. He will tell you to come back the next day.

When you show up though, the ceremony is glitched and nothing is happening. Maramal doesn't recognise that the ceremony should be on and the ceremony itself doesn't trigger.

For me, after arranging the ceremony I simply waited in the Temple until the next day. Nothing I did would trigger it. I left the Temple and came back in waited until midday. Nothing.

So this is what I did to fix it.

Solution

Note: This has only been tested on PC. Console players might have another solution.

  1. Move to outside the Church
  2. Open the Console (Press `)
  3. Type the following:
setstage relationshipmarriagewedding 10

This will force Skyrim to setup the marriage "stage" and when you reenter the church the scene will trigger and perform perfectly.

Skyrim - Starting Wagon Glitch Limit FPS / Enable V-Sync

You know what, it's been a while. Why not boot up some Skyrim and have another go at that game. So I did. Downloaded the game (11GB doesn't seem so bad anymore), max'ed out Graphics Settings and started the game.

I decided I would start a new game and character seeing as though it's been a while since I last played. But my problems immediately started there.

Starting Wagon Glitch

When you start the game and you're riding in the back of the wagon on your way to your execution, you find that the horse, wagon and everything is flying in every direction. Just a horrific spectacle of object crashing into each other and nauseating POV sinning.

Here's a video of my third experience when I recorded it.

The Issue

So after some Googling, I found that this glitch is related to the game's engine and it's inability to handle high framerates. I was running the game at 145 fps (average) on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. The idea is to limit your frames to no more than 60 fps.

Limiting Your Framerate

On PC, there's no real setting in the software to limit your frames. Also in most cases, your DO have V-Sync enabled already but most gaming monitors now are sync'd to be more than 60 FPS. So here is how I did it.

  1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings

Here we are going to use the software to limit Skyrim to 60 fps.
  1. Go to Program Settings tab
  2. Add Skyrim (if you can't see it in the drop down)
  3. Go to the setting Max Frame Rate and set it to 60 FPS
  4. Click Apply at the bottom
  5. Start your game a test
