Skyrim - Starting Wagon Glitch Limit FPS / Enable V-Sync

You know what, it's been a while. Why not boot up some Skyrim and have another go at that game. So I did. Downloaded the game (11GB doesn't seem so bad anymore), max'ed out Graphics Settings and started the game.

I decided I would start a new game and character seeing as though it's been a while since I last played. But my problems immediately started there.

Starting Wagon Glitch

When you start the game and you're riding in the back of the wagon on your way to your execution, you find that the horse, wagon and everything is flying in every direction. Just a horrific spectacle of object crashing into each other and nauseating POV sinning.

Here's a video of my third experience when I recorded it.

The Issue

So after some Googling, I found that this glitch is related to the game's engine and it's inability to handle high framerates. I was running the game at 145 fps (average) on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. The idea is to limit your frames to no more than 60 fps.

Limiting Your Framerate

On PC, there's no real setting in the software to limit your frames. Also in most cases, your DO have V-Sync enabled already but most gaming monitors now are sync'd to be more than 60 FPS. So here is how I did it.

  1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings

Here we are going to use the software to limit Skyrim to 60 fps.
  1. Go to Program Settings tab
  2. Add Skyrim (if you can't see it in the drop down)
  3. Go to the setting Max Frame Rate and set it to 60 FPS
  4. Click Apply at the bottom
  5. Start your game a test
